Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to 33 Years Behind Bars
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In a major blow to the heroin trade in Indianapolis, Anthony Lomax, 39, was sentenced to 400 months (over 33 years) in federal prison for his role in a heroin distribution conspiracy.
According to court documents, Lomax, along with his brother Brandon Lomax and Demond Glover, conspired to distribute kilogram-quantities of heroin in and around the Haughville area of Indianapolis between 2009 and 2012.
The trio used a shell business to cover their operations, but law enforcement investigators were able to uncover their scheme. Lomax and his co-defendants were found guilty of their involvement in the conspiracy after a jury verdict in February.
Heroin use has been on the rise in Indianapolis and other major cities in recent years, as users switched to the cheaper and more readily available alternative to prescription opioids.
U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett praised the sentencing, saying, “Heroin is a dangerous drug that has ravaged our communities. Putting those who infect our streets with this terrible drug behind bars has been and will continue to be a top priority of this office.”
Lomax will serve 10 years of supervised release after his term of imprisonment, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michelle Brady and Melanie Conour announced.
“The heroin epidemic knows no geographic boundaries and is blind to what tax bracket you happen to be in,” Hogsett added.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has been cracking down on heroin trafficking and gun possession in the city as part of its Violent Crime Initiative.
The case is a reminder of the devastating impact of heroin use on families and communities, and the need for continued efforts to combat the opioid epidemic.
