In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Antonio Eric Torres Maldonado, a 34-year-old Inver Grove Heights man, was sentenced to 180 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for producing sexually explicit images of a minor.
According to court documents, Maldonado admitted to sexually abusing a minor over a multiple year period. During this time, Maldonado used his cell phone to take sexually explicit photographs of the minor.
On April 21, 2021, Maldonado pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of production and attempted production of child pornography.
Maldonado was also charged and convicted in Dakota County of first degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to 172 months in prison, which will be served concurrent to the federal sentence.
Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk for the District of Minnesota made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson sentenced the defendant.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Lakeville Police Department.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Angela M. Munoz.
