Apolinar Armando Lopez-Gutierrez, 38, Enters Guilty Plea to Reentry Charge in West Virginia
A 38-year-old Mexican national has admitted to reentering the United States after being previously removed, according to a recent court filing in West Virginia.
Apolinar Armando Lopez-Gutierrez, of Mexico, made the admission as part of a plea agreement in federal court.
The case against Lopez-Gutierrez stems from a stabbing investigation in Tennessee, where authorities discovered that he was friends with the stabbing suspect. A subsequent investigation led officials to Lopez-Gutierrez, who was found living and working in Sutton, West Virginia.
Lopez-Gutierrez had been removed from the United States in April of 2024, but apparently returned and was taken into custody by federal authorities.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with assistance from the Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Marshals Service, both of whom investigated the matter.
The case is part of a nationwide initiative called Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat violent crime and protect communities from the perpetrators of such crimes.
A federal district court judge will determine Lopez-Gutierrez’s sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. He faces up to two years in federal prison for his admitted offense.
