Local Man Indicted for Possession of Unregistered Firearm

Lead, South Dakota – Archie Roberts, a 28-year-old man from Lead, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.

As reported by the United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, Roberts was indicted on December 16, 2014, for allegedly possessing two sawed-off shotguns that were not registered to him.

The incident in question occurred on September 30, 2014, in Lead, South Dakota. According to the indictment, Roberts was found to be in possession of the unregistered firearms, which is a serious offense under federal law.

The maximum penalty for this crime is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Roberts appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on February 4, 2015, and pled not guilty to the indictment. He was released on bond pending trial, with a trial date set for April 14, 2015.
