Ardmore man, Jason Glen Willis, 32, has pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen firearm in a case that has left authorities baffled.
The case unfolded on March 20, 2017, when authorities discovered that Willis had knowingly possessed a firearm that had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce. The firearm, a Heritage Manufacturing, Inc., Model Rough Rider, .22 caliber revolver, serial number F76454, was found to be stolen.
Willis, who had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, is now facing charges of Felon In Possession Of Firearm and Possessing, Receiving And Concealing A Stolen Firearm. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
The investigation into the case was led by the Ardmore Police Department, the Murray County Sherriff’s Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to court documents, the charges against Willis arose from an indictment that alleged he knowingly possessed and concealed a stolen firearm on March 20, 2017. The indictment also alleged that the firearm had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States in the case. The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
The case highlights the importance of gun safety and the consequences of possessing stolen firearms. Willis’s plea and the ongoing investigation serve as a reminder of the severity of the charges and the potential consequences for those found guilty.
The case is still ongoing, and further details will be released as more information becomes available.
