Fentanyl Pills Flooded Iowa Mailboxes
An Arizona man’s brazen scheme to send thousands of fentanyl pills to Iowa through the mail has landed him a hefty prison sentence. Dominique Holliday, a 28-year-old from Tempe, Arizona, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl pill conspiracy.
According to court documents, Holliday began sending packages containing 200 to 300 fentanyl pills to an individual in Marion, Iowa, every two weeks starting in April 2021. This illicit operation continued until December 21, 2021, with Holliday sending a total of approximately 3,200 pills. The packages were paid for using a financial application, with the recipient disguising the nature and source of the payments.
The sinister plot took a deadly turn on two occasions in December 2021, when two individuals suffered non-fatal overdoses after ingesting fentanyl pills sent by Holliday.
Holliday’s sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his 87-month prison sentence, Holliday must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Holliday is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards, with assistance from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice.
The OCDETF program brought together a cooperative effort from the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Marion Police Department; and the Cedar Rapids Police Department to investigate and prosecute Holliday’s crimes.
