James Johnson, Production of Child Sexual Abuse Material, Arkansas 2023

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE — A Houston, Arkansas, resident has been found guilty on a staggering 12 counts of production of child sexual abuse material. The verdict was announced by Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Judge Brian S. Miller presided over the trial, which concluded after two days of testimony. On February 7, 2023, James Johnson, 75, was indicted by a federal grand jury following an investigation that unearthed chilling evidence against him.

The case began to unravel when an elementary school employee in Perryville received a letter from a young victim detailing allegations of abuse at the hands of Johnson. The child and her sibling lived next door to Johnson and were in his care during the incidents described.

During the trial, it was revealed that Johnson not only watched pornography with the children but also engaged in lewd acts upon them. A search warrant executed on September 28, 2022, at Johnson’s residence resulted in the seizure of a Samsung Galaxy cell phone containing graphic images of the younger victim.

Johnson faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years for each count, with no possibility of parole. Assistant United States Attorneys Kristin Bryant and Lauren Eldridge handled the prosecution.

The Arkansas State Police conducted the investigation, while the case was prosecuted by the Eastern District of Arkansas U.S. Attorney’s Office. For more information on this office, visit their website.
