Arkansas predator Bobby Joe Sheffield, 52, was found guilty yesterday by a federal jury in Tallahassee of attempting to entice a minor into unlawful sexual activity. Sheffield, from Paris, Arkansas, faces life in prison for his brazen online crime.
United States Attorney John P. Heekin praised the collaboration between state and federal law enforcement agencies, particularly Operation Safe Summer, which led to Sheffield’s capture. ‘This predator is facing justice,’ said Heekin, emphasizing the office’s commitment to protecting children from sexual exploitation.
The trial revealed that in July 2024, Sheffield communicated with an undercover officer he believed to be a minor female, expressing interest in engaging her in sexual activity. Sheffield was arrested upon arrival at a meeting spot, found with condoms, and later confirmed to have been communicating with law enforcement through his phone.
Sheffield is now staring down a mandatory minimum of 10 years in federal prison, followed by life imprisonment and up to five years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
This investigation was a joint effort between the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant United States Attorneys Harley W. Ferguson and Joseph A. Ravelo handling the prosecution.
Sentencing is set for November 19, 2025, at 3:00 pm in the Tallahassee courthouse before Judge Mark Walker. The case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, the DOJ’s nationwide initiative against child sexual exploitation online.
