SCRANTON, PA – Brandon Christopher Heck, 25, of Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, will spend the next 15 years of his life behind bars after being sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment for the horrific production of child pornography. United States District Judge Joseph F. Saporito, Jr. handed down the sentence today, bringing a measure of justice to a case that exposed a particularly vile form of predation.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Heck’s depravity unfolded over a mere 24-hour period between July 26, 2023, and July 27, 2023. He targeted a 7-year-old child, engaging with her through the Likee application. Disgustingly, Heck posed as a 14-year-old boy to groom and manipulate the young victim, directing her to send sexually explicit images of herself. This wasn’t a fleeting encounter; it was a calculated and predatory scheme.
The investigation, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation – Philadelphia Division, didn’t stop at the initial exploitation. A forensic examination of Heck’s cellular device revealed a broader pattern of abuse. Authorities discovered he didn’t just *create* the images, he actively distributed child pornography via the Telegram platform throughout 2024, extending the reach of his monstrous acts.
Assistant United States Attorney Tatum Wilson relentlessly prosecuted the case, presenting the damning evidence that led to Heck’s conviction and subsequent sentencing. This case highlights the urgent need for vigilance and swift action against those who prey on the vulnerable. The emotional and psychological damage inflicted on this child will undoubtedly be lifelong.
This prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute predators, and to rescue victims from these horrific situations. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.
Heck’s sentence sends a clear message: the exploitation of children will not be tolerated. While no amount of time can undo the harm caused, it’s a step towards holding this predator accountable and protecting other potential victims. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on efforts to combat child exploitation in Pennsylvania and beyond.
