Avery Ricardo Robinson III, 26, carjacked a victim at gunpoint in Columbia Heights, D.C., on September 20, 2025, making off with a 2017 Nissan Altima. The incident occurred near the 1400 block of Park Road NW, where the victim had parked the vehicle. Robinson, who was on a bicycle, pulled a firearm and demanded the victim’s possessions. He forced the victim to hand over the car keys and a necklace, and warned him he would shoot if he saw him again.
Robinson was arrested two days later and found in possession of a loaded handgun. He pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking on March 10, 2026, and was sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI Washington Field Office.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Robinson ‘carjacked his victim for sport’ and ‘terrorized his victim at gunpoint.’ Pirro stated that the office will continue to pursue serious sentences for defendants who treat their neighbors as prey.
