A brazen armed carjacking shook Farmington, New Mexico, when 34-year-old Myles Cordelle Dan Padilla took a motor vehicle from John Doe by force with a firearm on April 10, 2022.
Padilla’s actions were a brazen disregard for the law, especially for a man with a history of violence. As a previously convicted felon, he’s prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Now, Padilla’s facing the consequences of his actions, pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case, with First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announcing the plea today.
The FBI’s Farmington Resident Agency investigated the case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations.
Padilla’s plea comes as a sigh of relief for the community, but the reality is that the sentence is just around the corner. He’s facing up to 15 years in prison at sentencing.
