A 41-year-old Arizona woman nearly killed her three young kids when she crashed her car while drunk on a New Mexico highway. Avedale Johnson, a Navajo Nation member, was doing 98 miles per hour on US Highway 491 when she lost control and set off a fire.
The kids, unrestrained in the vehicle, fled the scene with Johnson, but all were unhurt. Except for a minor bump on the head, that is.
A subsequent search turned up booze bottles and drug paraphernalia in the wreckage. Johnson copped to driving drunk, and investigators found her guilty of child abandonment.
Johnson got off easy, if you ask me: five years of probation for nearly killing her own kids.
