Baltimore, MD – In a gritty display of justice, Arnold Threet, the 50-year-old bank robber responsible for a high-stakes heist at the First Mariner Bank in Cockeysville, was today sentenced to ten years behind bars by Chief U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake.
Threet’s sentence includes three years of supervised release and an order to pay $8,935 in restitution. The court’s verdict followed a tense investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baltimore County Police Department.
The heist occurred on July 5, 2013, when Threet and an accomplice donned masks and threatened bank employees with what appeared to be a firearm, making off with $8,935. A witness reported seeing Threet with a black handgun in his waistband after the crime.
Police promptly apprehended Threet as he attempted to flee in his vehicle, where they discovered clothing, gloves, and a pellet gun matching what was seen in surveillance video of the bank robbery. Under questioning, Threet admitted to the crime and acknowledged the role of the pellet gun in the heist.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein lauded the hard work of both law enforcement agencies and expressed gratitude towards Assistant U.S. Attorney Bonnie S. Greenberg for her prosecution of the case. The sentence sends a stern message that bank robbery will not be tolerated in Baltimore County.
