Artemio Santiago-Hernandez, 43, Sentenced for Illegal Reentry

HARRISBURG – In a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle to stem the tide of illegal immigration, Artemio Santiago-Hernandez, a 43-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to time served for illegally reentering the United States.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, Santiago-Hernandez was previously removed from the United States on March 19, 2015, through Laredo, Texas, and reentered the country without legal permission to do so. This is not his first offense, as he was also previously removed in 2007.

Santiago-Hernandez’s troubles don’t stop there. He has been convicted at least three times of driving under the influence or similar offenses and still faces DUI charges in Franklin County.

The case against Santiago-Hernandez is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.

Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The case was investigated by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant United States Attorney Scott Ford prosecuting the case.

Santiago-Hernandez was sentenced to time served (three months) by United States District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson. As he serves out his sentence, the people of Pennsylvania can rest a little easier knowing that another would-be illegal immigrant has been brought to justice.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of our nation’s immigration laws and the need for continued vigilance in enforcing them.
