
David C. Hollingsworth, 49, of New Orleans, Louisiana, has been sentenced for simple assault on a Department of Defense Police Officer on a Navy Base in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
On August 9, 2010, Hollingsworth pointed an assault-style rifle at an off-duty Department of Defense Police Officer while on Naval Air station/Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse. He was disarmed and arrested by Base Security and later charged with assault.
In a separate case, Hollingsworth previously pled guilty in August of 2012 to an Indictment for Receipt of Materials Involving the Sexual Exploitation of Minors and is serving 5 years incarceration. He was sentenced to six (6) months of incarceration, to be served consecutively to the sexual exploitation sentence.
This case was investigated by special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Edward J. Rivera and Brian M. Klebba.
U. S. Attorney Dan J. Boente announced the sentencing, stating Hollingsworth’s actions posed a significant threat to the safety of the Naval Air station/Joint Reserve Base community.
Hollingsworth will be serving his six-month sentence consecutively with his existing 5-year sentence for the sexual exploitation charges, bringing his total incarceration time to 5 years and six months.
This case highlights the importance of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) in maintaining the safety and security of our nation’s military installations.
