ROSEBUD, SOUTH DAKOTA – A senseless act of violence in Rosebud has led to a lengthy sentence for a 21-year-old man. Aaron Sharpfish, a resident of Rosebud, was sentenced to 394 days in custody for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
According to court documents, Sharpfish struck the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The attacker then kicked the victim in the head and face multiple times, resulting in a fracture to the victim’s eye.
The incident occurred on November 21, 2011. Sharpfish was later indicted by a federal grand jury on April 10, 2012, and pled guilty to the charge on March 5, 2013.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on May 15, 2013. In addition to the 394-day prison sentence, Sharpfish was ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release and pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation into the assault was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers prosecuted the case.
Sharpfish was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal following the sentencing. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that justice has been served, and the perpetrator will face the consequences of their actions.
