COEUR D’ALENE – Aleck Walker, a 25-year-old man from Lapwai, Idaho, has been sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison for a brutal assault that left two people fearing for their lives.
According to court records, on July 2017, Walker approached a woman parked in a vehicle in an alley, accompanied by her daughter and father. Walker asked the woman why she was in the alley and pointed a short-barreled shotgun directly at her head, sparking an intense fear in both the woman and her daughter.
The case was prosecuted in federal court due to Walker’s status as a Nez Perce tribal member, and the fact that the offense occurred within the boundaries of the Nez Perce reservation.
At sentencing, Walker took responsibility for his actions, apologizing to the victims and stating that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the assault.
On Tuesday, United States District Court Judge David C. Nye handed down a total sentence of 166 months in federal prison, consisting of 46 months for assault with a dangerous weapon and an additional 120 months for using a short-barreled shotgun in furtherance of the assault. Walker will also serve 3 years of supervised release after his release from prison.
The case was investigated by the Nez Perce Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This sentence serves as a stern reminder of the severe consequences that come with committing violent crimes.
The victims of this heinous crime deserve justice, and with Aleck Walker’s lengthy sentence, they can finally find some closure. This case serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of the victims, who stood up against their attacker and sought justice.
