Former Police Officer Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Sexual Exploitation
A former police officer in Missouri has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a child sexual exploitation case. August Price Gildehaus, 30, of Blue Springs, Mo., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge D. Gregory Kays to 20 years in the Bureau of Prisons to be followed by supervised release for life.
Gildehaus, a former police officer in Grain Valley, Mo., pleaded guilty to one count of enticing a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and one count of producing child pornography. The charges stem from his interactions with a 15-year-old female victim, whom he met on an online social media platform.
Between Aug. 5, 2022, and Jan. 5, 2023, Gildehaus met with the victim on five separate occasions to engage in illicit sexual activity at different locations, including a middle school parking lot. He also admitted to recording videos of their encounters and sending photographs of himself to the victim.
The case was investigated by the Grain Valley, Mo., Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Brackett.
Gildehaus will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and will be subject to federal and state sex offender registration requirements, which may apply throughout his life.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Gildehaus’ sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and working to protect vulnerable members of our communities.
