Erick Rahumid Hobbs, Illegal Firearm and Ammunition Possession, Maryland 2018

Baltimore, MD – In a grim turn of justice, Erick Rahumid Hobbs, also known as Eric Muhammad, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow to 198 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release for the heinous crime of illegal firearm and ammunition possession.

Hobbs, a previous felon, had been prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition. His conviction on March 6, 2019, followed a three-day trial where a federal jury found him guilty.

U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur, Special Agent in Charge Rob Cekada of the ATF Baltimore Field Division, and Chief Terrence B. Sheridan of the Baltimore County Police Department announced the sentence. “Erick Hobbs knew he was forbidden from owning firearms or ammunition,” said Hur. “The reality of a federal prison sentence can deter those who don’t fear imprisonment.”

Between October 2017 and January 2018, Hobbs had been involved in a relationship that turned sour when he demanded the return of a television he gifted to his partner’s daughter. On February 3, 2018, he broke into the woman’s home, held them at gunpoint, and stole the TV.

Hobbs was arrested on February 4, 2018, after attempting to flee from law enforcement. A loaded 9 mm pistol was found near him. He later plotted with his son and roommate to target the victim again through Facebook communications.

On February 5, 2018, police searched Hobbs’ residence and found 65 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and a note with the victim’s address. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime.
