Baltimore Heroin Ring Leader Sentenced to 10 Years
Baltimore, MD – In a major blow to the city’s heroin trade, 28-year-old Adrian Spence, also known as ‘AJ’ and ‘SP,’ has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a large-scale heroin distribution conspiracy in Baltimore County.
According to court documents, Spence was a key player in a heroin ring that operated in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. He was found to have coordinated drug sales, directed others to cut the heroin for resale, and attempted to secure sources of heroin for later sale.
Evidence seized during a search warrant at Spence’s residence on July 31, 2015, included $26,320 in cash, cellular phones, and other items. Spence admitted to being an organizer and leader of a drug trafficking organization involving more than five individuals and to being responsible for between one and three kilograms of heroin.
Spence’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett, who also ordered the defendant to forfeit $26,320 seized during the search warrant. The sentence is the result of a joint investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Baltimore Police Department, and the Baltimore County Police Department.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution, saying, ‘The sentence imposed today serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in large-scale heroin distribution in our community.’
Spence’s case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Jason D. Medinger, Christina Hoffman, and Daniel C. Gardner as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.
The investigation and prosecution of Spence’s case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to disrupting and dismantling the heroin trade in Baltimore and surrounding areas.
