ALBUQUERQUE – A chilling sentence has been meted out to Jonathan Bivins, 42, a member of the notorious Bandidos Motorcycle Club, who was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of firearms by a convicted felon. There’s no parole in this high-stakes scenario.
On August 31, 2023, the FBI and local law enforcement partners across New Mexico launched an intensive operation against the Bandidos. During their search of Bivins’ home in Alamogordo, agents stumbled upon a treasure trove of thirteen firearms stashed in a bedroom safe. The discovery was the culmination of months of investigation.
Bivins, already a known criminal due to his previous convictions, was well aware that he was barred from owning or handling firearms or ammunition. Yet, the danger remained palpable as agents uncovered the arsenal hidden away in plain sight.
Following his prison term, Bivins will be subjected to 3 years of supervised release, a harsh penalty for such a serious offense. Today’s announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office.
The investigation was spearheaded by the FBI Albuquerque Field Office and New Mexico State Police as part of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph M. Spindle and David B. Hirsch are the prosecutors handling this high-profile case.
