A brazen bank robbery in Pinole, California, has its wheels come off for the getaway driver, Regina Lynn Dean.
Dean, 37, of Antioch, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for aiding and abetting armed bank robbery. Dean, who had no plea agreement with the government, pleaded guilty on May 15, 2013, for her role in the March 1, 2013, heist at the Mechanics Bank branch on Pinole Valley Boulevard. The robbery took place at gunpoint, with the perpetrator, Gary Casdell Fite, II, making off with more than $3,000.
According to the FBI investigation, Dean was the getaway driver for Fite, 23, of Oakland. Fite was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 28, 2013, and pleaded guilty pursuant to a plea agreement on June 19, 2013. Fite is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4, 2013.
Dean’s sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton, also includes a 3-year period of supervised release. Dean was ordered to surrender into federal custody immediately after her sentencing.
The prosecution of Dean is the result of a joint effort between the U.S. Attorney’s office and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian C. Lewis led the case with the assistance of Legal Assistant Janice Pagsanjan.
While Dean’s sentence brings closure to this bank robbery case, the brazen heist serves as a reminder of the harsh reality of violent crime in our communities.
