German Campos Jr, a 26-year-old from Franklin Park, Illinois, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a string of violent bank robberies in the Chicago suburbs. Between October 2023 and August 2024, Campos robbed six banks, brandishing a gun at tellers and customers in five of the incidents. The robberies occurred in Schaumburg, Elmhurst, Park Ridge, and Niles, leaving a trail of fear and trauma in their wake.
The robberies were brazen and frequent, with Campos striking at U.S. Bank locations in Schaumburg and Elmhurst multiple times. He also robbed a BMO Bank in Park Ridge and a U.S. Bank in Niles. Campos was finally arrested on September 17, 2024, and has remained in custody ever since.
Campos pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery and firearm charges in March 2026. During his sentencing hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie C. Stern argued that Campos’ repeated use of a gun during the robberies posed a significant threat to the safety of bank employees, customers, and the general public. U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin ultimately sentenced Campos to 14 years in federal prison.
The investigation into Campos’ crime spree was a collaborative effort between the FBI’s Chicago Field Office and local police departments in Schaumburg, Elmhurst, Park Ridge, Niles, and Franklin Park. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros and FBI Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Ryan Whalen.
