A brutal bar fight in a DC nightclub turned deadly when Robert Lowe, 42, of Montgomery Village, MD, shot and killed 45-year-old Kenneth Goins in the early hours of April 27, 2024. The altercation occurred at Desperados Burger and Bar, located at 1342 U Street, NW, when Lowe struck Goins in the head with a bottle, sparking a fierce fight. As Goins gained the upper hand, Lowe pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, striking him once in the abdomen.
Following the shooting, Lowe fled the scene on his motorcycle, but was later arrested on May 22, 2024. Body camera footage from MPD officers, who were in the area and heard the gunshots, shows a person getting onto a motorcycle in the alley and a person in front of the bar pointing towards the man on the motorcycle yelling “hey, him.” Despite attempts to render aid, Goins died from his injuries.
Lowe was found guilty of second-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He faces a potential maximum sentence of 33 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17, 2026.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie Dinan and Tamara Rubb. Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined the announcement, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in bringing Lowe to justice.
