Henrico Felon Sentenced to Three Years and Six Months in Prison for Unlawful Firearm Possession
In a crackdown on violent crime, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia has secured a significant conviction. On Oct. 16, 2024, a Richmond Police officer apprehended Barion Quinto Wright, 25, in Whitcomb Court. Wright’s actions led to a lengthy prison sentence.
According to court documents, Wright had been previously convicted of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (twice), possessing a firearm while possessing a controlled substance, and carrying a concealed weapon. As a convicted felon, Wright is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The firearm in question, a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, had been reported lost or missing on Feb. 23, 2024.
When Wright fled from the officer, he discarded the firearm, but it was soon recovered. This reckless behavior has earned Wright a three years and six months prison sentence. U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan emphasized the importance of protecting communities from convicted felons who choose to arm themselves.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Richmond Police Department collaborated on the investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Gilliland handled the prosecution. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at safeguarding communities from violent crime.
Wright’s sentence serves as a warning to those who choose to disregard the law and put innocent lives at risk. The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding accountable those who engage in such reckless behavior.
