BEAUMONT, TX – Deshawn Paul Hall, 43, is headed to federal prison for a lengthy stretch after being convicted of peddling crack cocaine and illegally possessing firearms. Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston announced the 155-month sentence handed down today by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone, bringing a close to a case that exposed a year-long drug operation and a deeply troubled criminal history.
Hall, also known as Deshawn Paul Davis, faced the music after a jury found him guilty on August 31, 2016, of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of crack cocaine. The investigation revealed Hall was operating out of a residence on Magnolia Street in Beaumont, turning the location into a hub for drug activity. But the drugs weren’t the whole story.
Court records paint a disturbing picture of Hall’s past. He’s no stranger to the justice system, with prior convictions in Jefferson County, Texas, including a 1993 sexual assault, a 2007 failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements, and a 2012 charge for possession of a controlled substance. This pattern of criminal behavior clearly demonstrated a disregard for the law and the safety of the community.
The bust that sealed Hall’s fate occurred when detectives and officers executed a search warrant at his residence. Investigators discovered not only a stash of crack cocaine, but also three firearms. Compounding the severity of the situation, a juvenile female was also present at the location, raising serious concerns about the environment Hall was creating. Hall was initially indicted by a federal grand jury on September 5, 2015.
This case was brought forth as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a comprehensive initiative aimed at tackling gun and gang violence across the Eastern District of Texas. The program brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement, alongside community members and organizations, to reduce crime and enhance public safety. It’s a concerted effort to take back the streets from those who prey on the vulnerable.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beaumont Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Woods handling the prosecution. This conviction sends a clear message: those who choose to traffic drugs and arm themselves while already burdened by a criminal record will face the full weight of the law. The streets of Beaumont are a little safer today.
