Florida authorities have taken down a massive methamphetamine trafficking ring led by Michael Termaine Bell, Sr. that peddled millions of dollars in illicit substances to desperate users.
The crackdown, dubbed “Operation Bell Buster,” was a joint effort between the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Panama City Residence Office. The investigation, which began in early 2023, identified the Bell DTO’s command-and-control structure, revealing a network of distributors and retailers selling wholesale quantities of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, ALPHA-PIHP (“molly”), and fentanyl to local citizens.
As of Thursday, April 18, 2024, 20 members of the Bell DTO have been arrested and charged in connection with the case. Seventeen face state charges, while three will be federally indicted.
The seized narcotics include over 3.7 kilograms of marijuana, 430 grams of ALPHA-PIHP (“molly”), 1.4 kilograms of cocaine, 1,290 grams of methamphetamine, and 104 grams of fentanyl. Additionally, several firearms were confiscated during the operation.
Michael Termaine Bell, Sr., the alleged ringleader, remains at large and is considered a fugitive. Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9648 or Chipola CrimeStoppers at (850) 526-5000.
Jackson County Sheriff Edenfield commended the collaborative effort with the DEA, State Attorney Larry Basford, and other law enforcement agencies in bringing the operation to a close.
“We will continue to fight against those who distribute drugs in our community and fight for the safety of our citizens,” Sheriff Edenfield declared.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected. Michael Termaine Bell, Sr.’s capture is a top priority for authorities.
Special Agent George Kissell of the DEA Panama City Residence Office praised the collaborative work of the agencies involved, stating that the success of the operation was a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to take down major trafficking organizations.
The seized narcotics and firearms are being analyzed, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation unfolds. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
