CLEVELAND MAN CHARGED IN PARMA BANK ROBBERY
A disturbing trend of bank robberies in Ohio has led to the indictment of two Cleveland men, Richard Joseph Beris, 22, and Alexander Nathaniel Penn, 41, with one count of aiding and abetting bank robbery, according to a grand jury indictment.
The alleged crime took place on August 4, 2016 at the Citizens Bank, located at 5775 Chevrolet Boulevard in Parma, a federally insured financial institution. If convicted, the defendants’ sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to their case, including any prior criminal records, their roles in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
Beris and Penn, if convicted, could face a sentence that does not exceed the statutory maximum. In most cases, the sentence will be less than the maximum. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Seabury Gould and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Parma Police Department.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The indictment highlights the need for increased security measures in banks across Ohio to prevent such crimes from occurring. The citizens of Parma and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
As the investigation continues, the Grimy Times will provide updates on this developing story. Richard Joseph Beris and Alexander Nathaniel Penn are currently free on bond and are due to appear in court for their arraignment.
