A Wisconsin Rapids man has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for distributing child pornography.
Benjamin T. Mann, 40, was sentenced to 6 years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson on September 9, 2021.
The charge against Mann was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
In July 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a home in Ohio, where they found evidence that Mann sent child pornography to an Ohio resident and communicated with him about sexually assaulting children.
Mann pleaded guilty to the charge on September 9, 2021.
The investigation revealed that Mann posted images of child pornography and discussed assaulting children in Kik chat rooms with the resident and others.
According to Judge Peterson, the discussions about sexually assaulting children were an aggravating factor, and the sentence imposed would protect the community for approximately 20 years.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman prosecuted this case.
