Berea residents are breathing a sigh of relief after the deadly bank robbery that shook the community in March. The suspect, Peter W. Hutton, has been arrested and federally charged in connection with the crime.
On March 22, 2026, Hutton allegedly robbed the Berea Bank on Main Street, Berea, Kentucky. The suspect allegedly shot and killed a bank employee during the robbery.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Peter W. Hutton faces federal charges for bank robbery resulting in death, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a) and (d).
The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on the day of the crime, with authorities responding to the scene shortly after. The Berea Police Department and the FBI worked together to apprehend the suspect.
