Biddeford Man Jailed for 2 1/2 Years for Pharmacy Heist
Kyle Desmarais, a 32-year-old Biddeford man, has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for his role in a brazen pharmacy robbery in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Desmarais pleaded guilty to the charge on June 20, 2014, and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Torresen yesterday.
According to court records, Desmarais drove Billy Schildroth to the Rite Aid pharmacy on February 13, 2014, where Schildroth proceeded to rob the store. Schildroth used a threat to steal Oxycontin (oxycodone) and Suboxone (buprenorphine) worth an unknown amount before fleeing the scene. Desmarais then drove Schildroth away from the crime scene, aware that the robbery had taken place.
The investigation into the pharmacy robbery was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Old Orchard Beach Police Department. Schildroth, who pleaded guilty to the robbery on August 1, 2014, is scheduled to be sentenced on November 18, 2014, and faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Desmarais’s sentence is a reminder of the severity of the consequences for those involved in such crimes. The incident highlights the need for law enforcement agencies to work together to bring perpetrators to justice.
