Newfound Depths of a Dark World

BROOKSVILLE, FL – A 20-year prison sentence has been handed down to Darrence White, 29, for his role in distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl in the Tampa area. The conviction marks a significant blow to the scourge of narcotics trafficking that continues to plague our communities.

According to court documents, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle in which White was a passenger on March 11, 2023. During the traffic stop, a deputy detected a strong odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a bag in the glove compartment containing methamphetamine, fentanyl, and a blue latex glove. White was subsequently searched and found to be in possession of additional controlled substances and a blue latex glove matching the one found in the vehicle.

The discovery of these illicit substances capped an investigation that spanned several months, culminating in White’s guilty plea on April 7, 2025. As part of the plea agreement, White acknowledged his role in the distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl, a combination of substances that has led to a surge in overdose-related deaths across the nation.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. By fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting focused enforcement priorities, the program seeks to create safer neighborhoods for all.

Assistant United States Attorney Maria Guzman led the prosecution of White, working closely with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office to bring the case to fruition. The successful prosecution serves as a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement officials and their commitment to keeping our communities safe.

As the nation grapples with the complexities of the narcotics crisis, the conviction of Darrence White stands as a beacon of hope for those fighting against the scourge of drug trafficking. It is a sobering reminder that the consequences of these crimes can be severe and long-lasting, and that those responsible will be held accountable.
