California Man Sentenced for Marijuana Trafficking

A California man has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. Gerardo Delgadillo, 22, was found to have possessed approximately 30 pounds of marijuana in his suitcase when he arrived at Tri-State Airport in Kenova, West Virginia on October 17, 2018.

Delgadillo admitted to having flown from California to West Virginia specifically to sell the marijuana. He was arrested and charged with a federal crime, which he has now been sentenced for.

United States Attorney Mike Stuart commented on the case, saying, “Thirty pounds of pot in a suitcase on a plane. Marijuana is and remains illegal. We actively prosecute marijuana distribution regardless of whether it’s brought into West Virginia by plane, train, bus, boat, car, or UFO.”

The Violent Crime Drug Task Force West led the investigation into Delgadillo’s activities, and United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor handled the prosecution.

The sentence of 10 months in prison is a significant penalty for the crime, and it serves as a warning to others who may be considering engaging in similar activities. Marijuana remains a controlled substance under federal law, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in West Virginia is committed to enforcing those laws.

Delgadillo’s case is a reminder that marijuana trafficking is a serious crime that carries serious consequences. If you have any information about marijuana trafficking or other crimes, you are encouraged to contact the U.S. Attorney’s Office in West Virginia.
