Robert Richard, Pharmacy Robbery, Portland ME, 2023

Portland, Maine – The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine has announced that Robert Richard, a 26-year-old from Gardiner, was sentenced today to three years in federal prison for robbing a Rite Aid pharmacy on Thanksgiving Day. Following his release, Richard will be subject to three years of supervised release and is ordered to pay full restitution.

The sentencing follows Richard’s October 21, 2014 guilty plea for the November 28, 2013 armed robbery of the Bridgton Rite Aid. Wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, and a bandana, Richard entered the pharmacy, handed the pharmacist a note demanding all the oxycodone pills, and escaped with the drugs in a car equipped with a concealed license plate.

Assistant United States Attorney Julia M. Lipez oversaw the prosecution of the case, which resulted in today’s sentence imposed by Judge D. Brock Hornby.

Richard’s conviction was the result of an investigation carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bridgton Police Department, with support from the Augusta and Gardiner Police Departments, as well as the Kennebec and Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Departments.

This sentence sends a clear message that violent crimes will be met with swift justice. The community can rest easier knowing that such brazen acts of criminality have been adequately addressed by our law enforcement agencies.
