ABILENE, Texas — In a shocking turn of events, 51-year-old Juan Jose Guerra was sentenced to the statutory maximum of 10 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. This heinous crime has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
Guerra, a resident of Big Spring, Texas, was found to have a vast collection of child pornography on his computer, which he kept at his residence. The disturbing images included photographs of a victim who was forced to endure unimaginable suffering.
The investigation, led by the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Midland and Big Spring Police Departments, uncovered the extent of Guerra’s depraved collection. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven M. Sucsy, of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lubbock, Texas, was instrumental in bringing Guerra to justice.
This case is a stark reminder of the urgent need to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, aims to marshal federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.
Guerra has been in federal custody since December 6, 2011, and pleaded guilty in February 2013 to one count of possession of child pornography. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the victim whose photographs were included in his collection.
The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis is a testament to the severity of Guerra’s crimes. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this shocking revelation, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice for the victims of child exploitation.
U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas emphasized the importance of this case, stating that it is a ‘stark reminder of the urgent need to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.’
