Grimy Times has learned that Jeffrey Cripe, 38, of Elkhart, Indiana, has pleaded guilty to the felony offense of distributing child pornography.
Cripe appeared before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein on April 18, 2013, and entered a guilty plea. Nuechterlein is recommending that the district court accept the tendered guilty plea, and parties have 10 days to object to the recommendation.
The charges against Cripe were filed as a result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Indiana State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
According to federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, if convicted in court, any specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge.
Cripe’s sentencing has been set for April 18, 2013. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
The investigation and prosecution of Cripe’s case are a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution of child pornography.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Indiana State Police are to be commended for their tireless work in bringing Cripe to justice.
