Hammond Man Convicted of Child Pornography Distribution
A 41-year-old Hammond man was found guilty of distributing and attempting to distribute child pornography after a three-day jury trial.
According to United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson, Michael Swiger was charged with distributing videos of child sexual abuse material over a social media application on April 4, 2022, and was also charged with possessing images and videos of child sexual abuse material on April 5, 2022.
The investigation into Swiger’s activities was led by Homeland Security Investigations in Chicago and St. Paul, with assistance from the Hammond Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorneys Emily A. Morgan, Caitlin M. Padula, and Thomas M. McGrath prosecuted the case.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
Since its creation in 2006, Project Safe Childhood has marshaled federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
