Kashone Demetrious Bing, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, FL 2024

GAINESVILLE, FL – Kashone Demetrious Bing, 20, of Bronson, Florida, is facing serious time after admitting to illegally possessing a firearm. The plea, announced by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin, comes after a raid on Bing’s residence uncovered a loaded weapon in his lap while authorities were executing an arrest warrant.

This wasn’t a first offense. Bing is already a convicted felon, having previously been found guilty of two felonies, including aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement. That conviction should have been enough to keep him from laying hands on a weapon, but clearly, the message didn’t get through.

“I deeply appreciate the great work of our state and federal law enforcement partners in this case,” stated U.S. Attorney Heekin. “My office remains committed to prosecuting violent felons like this defendant to keep our communities safe.” Translation: we’re not letting guys like Bing run wild.

The bust was a coordinated effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies aren’t messing around, and they’re working together to get these guns off the streets and behind bars where they belong. Assistant United States Attorney Adam Hapner is prosecuting the case.

Bing is looking at a potential sentence of up to fifteen years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. A $250,000 fine is also on the table. He’ll have plenty of time to reflect on his choices while locked up. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28, 2025, before Chief United States District Judge Allen C. Winsor at the Gainesville courthouse.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at tackling illegal immigration, dismantling cartels, and cracking down on violent crime. It’s a broad sweep, leveraging resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, one of 94 nationwide, is leading the charge. Public court documents are available on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida website.
