Johnstown, PA – A grim day in federal court as Kimberly Cassidy, 40, of Blairsville, Pa., copped to a major heroin trafficking conspiracy that spanned over a year.
Cassidy, along with her co-defendants, plotted the distribution and possession of heroin from spring 2011 to May 15, 2012. Today’s guilty plea in front of United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson marks the end of this sinister enterprise.
Scheduled for June 27, 2013, Cassidy’s sentencing could lock her up for up to 20 years or saddle her with a $1 million fine—or both. The actual sentence hinges on the offense’s severity and any previous criminal history.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is the government’s ace in this case. The Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the FBI, Pennsylvania State Police, Indiana Police Department, and several other local agencies brought Cassidy to justice.
This isn’t just a drug bust; it’s about dismantling an organized crime ring that has been poisoning our streets with heroin. Cassidy is one of many who have felt the iron fist of the law for their part in this deadly syndicate.
Stay tuned as we follow up on this case and bring you more updates from the gritty world of federal crime.
