A 42-year-old Buckhannon resident has been handed down a hefty sentence for possessing a firearm, despite being prohibited from doing so.
Bo D. Beckner, a 42-year-old from Buckhannon, West Virginia, was sentenced to 46 months of incarceration for the firearms charge announced by United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld.
Beckner pleaded guilty in June 2022 to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’. This charge stems from an admission to having a 12-gauge shotgun in April 2021 in Upshur County, where he resides.
According to court documents, Beckner was prohibited from having firearms due to prior convictions. His guilty plea acknowledged the unlawful possession of the firearm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with crucial assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the West Virginia State Police.
Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, which saw Beckner receiving a significant prison sentence for his actions.
Beckner’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to firearms regulations and the consequences of non-compliance.
The sentencing of Bo D. Beckner highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and enforce firearms laws.
