Bank Heist: Beaver Falls Man Indicted for Robberies in West Virginia
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Pennsylvania man has been accused of carrying out two brazen bank robberies in the Mountain State, leaving victims shaken and authorities seeking justice.
According to a recent indictment, William J. Birdsall, 50, of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, robbed the Bank of Romney in Hampshire County on September 22, 2021, making off with a whopping $13,420 in cash. Just over a year later, on February 3, 2022, Birdsall allegedly struck again, this time targeting the M&T Bank in Mineral County, netting a paltry $1,200 in cash.
The indictment brings serious charges against Birdsall, who faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count. The actual sentence imposed will depend on the severity of the offenses and Birdsall’s prior criminal history, should he have any.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley D. Crockett is handling the case on behalf of the government, with the FBI conducting the investigation.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Birdsall is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The alleged bank robberies have sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents on high alert and wondering how such crimes could occur in their own backyard. The prosecution’s efforts to bring Birdsall to justice are a testament to their commitment to keeping the public safe.
As the investigation unfolds, the people of West Virginia can rest assured that the authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing and solving crimes.
