HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a gritty plea hearing before the grim backdrop of crime in Huntington, Robert Craig Hatfield, also known as “Bobby,” 48, pleaded guilty to carrying a firearm during and in relation to the distribution of fentanyl.
According to court documents, on February 11, 2025, Hatfield sold a SCCY 9mm pistol and approximately 4.5 grams of heroin to an informant for $340. The exchange took place at his residence, with Hatfield arranging the deal beforehand.
Hatfield now stares down a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, a life sentence looms as a possible outcome. His sentencing is scheduled for November 24, 2025. A significant fine of $250,000 and up to five years of supervised release hang in the balance.
United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement, commending the relentless investigative work of the FBI and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office. The judge presiding over the hearing was Robert C. Chambers, with Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor handling the prosecution.
This case is a vital component of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that leverages the full might of the Department of Justice against illegal immigration and the eradication of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs).
