FRESNO, Calif.

— A 65-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation that led to a fatal overdose on Christmas Day in 2020.

Bobby Hood, 65, of Friant, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. The charges stem from a summer 2020 investigation by law enforcement into Hood’s trafficking activities.

According to court documents, investigators reviewed phone evidence that corroborated Hood’s sale of a lethal dose of fentanyl, which led to the overdose death on December 25, 2020. The evidence also revealed that Hood had been dealing fentanyl and heroin on multiple occasions.

On December 25, 2020, a search of Hood’s residence, vehicle, and person uncovered a firearm, 508 grams of methamphetamine, 67 grams of fentanyl, and 1.75 ounces of heroin.

The case was the product of an investigation by FORT, a multi-agency team consisting of Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Fresno Police Department, and the Clovis Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin J. Gilio prosecuted the case.
