Bogalusa, Louisiana – Carlos Walker, a 33-year-old resident of Bogalusa, has pleaded guilty to violating federal gun and drug laws, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
On January 31, 2023, Walker admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and using a firearm to further a drug trafficking crime. The charges stem from an incident on September 24, 2021, where police stopped Walker’s vehicle for a non-functioning headlight.
During the traffic stop, officers noticed Walker kicking his legs as if trying to hide something under the seat. They found $4,000 in cash, a handgun under the seat, and 17 grams of methamphetamine in the door pocket. Walker has prior felony drug convictions.
The defendant faces serious penalties: ten years for firearm possession, twenty years for distributing meth, and at least five years for using a gun to facilitate drug trafficking. Sentencing will include fines up to $1 million and mandatory supervised release terms.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, emphasizing community safety and reducing violent crime. The investigation was conducted by ATF, Bogalusa PD, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney André Jones.
