This week, a staggering 122 border-related cases were filed by federal prosecutors in the Southern District of California. The crimes include bringing in aliens for financial gain, reentering the US after deportation, and importation of controlled substances. Mexican nationals, including Manuel Salvador Hernandez Perez, were arrested and charged with various crimes. The arrests occurred at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and other locations along the 140-mile border with Mexico.
On June 18, Hernandez Perez was arrested and charged with Importation of a Controlled Substance after Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 185 pounds of methamphetamine in his Ford F-150 truck. Another suspect, Ismael Molina-Ayala, was arrested on June 22 and charged with Deported Alien Found in the United States. He had been previously convicted of immigration offenses and deported three times.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California is one of the busiest federal districts, with a high volume of border-related crimes. The district encompasses San Diego and Imperial counties, and includes the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the world’s busiest land border crossing.
