A massive crackdown on border smugglers and traffickers in San Diego has resulted in 143 cases filed by the US Attorney’s Office. The investigation, which took place over the past week, targeted individuals attempting to smuggle aliens, bring in controlled substances, and reenter the country after deportation.
The cases spanned multiple locations, including the busy San Ysidro Port of Entry, where border control officers intercepted a staggering 317 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a vehicle’s rear bed.
Among those arrested were Ramon Ramirez Jr., charged with Importation of a Controlled Substance, and Gabriel Soto-Baez, accused of Attempted Entry after Deportation. Zelin Chen, a US citizen, was charged with Bringing in Aliens for Financial Gain.
The Southern District of California is one of the busiest federal districts due to the high volume of border-related crimes. The US Attorney’s Office has made it clear that they will continue to target those involved in such activities.
The investigation is ongoing, and those responsible face severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences.
