Jermen Rudd III, Conspiracy to Distribute Narcotics, California 2024

⏱ 2 min read

A Missouri man is going down for six years and three months after a prison narcotics conspiracy landed him in the crosshairs of federal investigators.

Jermen Rudd III, 39, of Wentzville, Missouri, was sentenced Monday for his role in introducing synthetic cannabinoids into the U.S. Penitentiary in Atwater, California.

The investigation unfolded in the summer of 2024, when correctional officers at USP Atwater opened a letter laced with narcotics sent by Rudd to inmate Jamar Jones. Two staff members fell ill, and a Supervisory Correctional Systems Specialist ultimately died.

Rudd pleaded guilty on January 12, 2026, and now faces a lengthy prison sentence. The investigation was a multi-agency effort involving the FBI, DEA, USP, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California.
