Border Patrol Agent Peless Arrested in Child Sex Sting
DETROIT – A sworn officer of the law is now accused of being a predator. Federal agents today took into custody Harry Marvelle Peless, III, 51, of Newport, Michigan, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent, following an investigation into his online interactions with an undercover officer.
According to a statement released by United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr., Peless allegedly solicited sex from and sent obscene material to an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl. The interactions took place over an online messaging application, beginning in September 2024. Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson of the Detroit FBI Division joined Gorgon in the announcement.
The criminal complaint details a pattern of near-daily conversations where Peless allegedly sent explicit content and repeatedly urged the undercover officer to run away with him and engage in sexual activity. What’s particularly damning, investigators say, is evidence showing Peless accessed the chat account – the one he used for these disturbing exchanges – while on duty as a Border Patrol Agent in Michigan.
“This is a betrayal of public trust,” a source within the FBI investigation told Grimy Times. “This individual was entrusted with protecting our borders, and instead, he was allegedly exploiting a vulnerable child online. We take these crimes incredibly seriously.” The investigation was a joint effort involving the FBI, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection – Office of Professional Responsibility, and the Department of Homeland Security – Office of Inspector General.
Harry Marvelle Peless, III is currently facing formal charges of attempted transfer of obscene material of a minor. It’s crucial to remember that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and Peless is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The government bears the burden of proof in this case.
