Omar Barron, 49, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 12 months plus one day in prison for failing to pay employment taxes for his business, Miracle Steel, Inc. Barron, the owner of the structural steel company, was charged in 2024 with failing to account for and pay over employment taxes for 2018, 2019, and two quarters of 2020. The taxes owed totaled $980,784.95. Barron pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by United States District Judge Keli M. Neary.
The investigation, conducted by the IRS-Criminal Investigation, Philadelphia Field Office, revealed that Barron had a responsibility to withhold income taxes for his employees and remit those taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, but failed to do so. As part of his sentence, Barron was ordered to pay the full outstanding tax liability as restitution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Terz. According to Yury Kruty, Special Agent in Charge, IRS-Criminal Investigation, Philadelphia Field Office, business owners have a responsibility to withhold income taxes for their employees and then remit those taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.
The sentence serves as a reminder that employment tax evasion is a serious crime with significant consequences. Barron’s actions not only harmed the Internal Revenue Service but also his employees, who may have been affected by his failure to pay their taxes.
