Boston Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Armed Robbery
A Boston man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in the armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Darius Carter, 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs to 14 years in prison and three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to interference with commerce by robbery; conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery; discharging, brandishing, using and carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence; and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.
On March 31, 2021, Carter pleaded guilty to the charges, which stem from the March 2019 robbery of the T-Mobile store. According to the charging documents, Carter and his co-defendant, Stephan Rosser-Stewart, entered the store on the evening of Jan. 26, 2019, carrying semi-automatic firearms. They demanded cash and electronics from the store manager, striking him in the head with a firearm and stealing approximately $25,000 in cash and electronics.
The men then fled the scene in a getaway vehicle driven by Diovanni Carter, who was later convicted and sentenced to 270 months in prison. A high-speed chase ensued, reaching speeds of over 70 mph in residential neighborhoods. During the chase, Carter and Rosser-Stewart fired eight rounds at the pursuing police cruisers.
Carter and Rosser-Stewart were apprehended, and the stolen phones, cash, and firearms were recovered. The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI, ATF, Massachusetts State Police, and local law enforcement agencies.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn MacKinlay and Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip A. Mallard prosecuted the case.
Carter’s sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement and the community, who worked together to bring the perpetrators to justice. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and community engagement in reducing violent crime.
